I discovered this weekend the new DA Critiquing function, which I think is great. I have often wondered about leaving what I hope would be helpful comments, but have frequently felt intimidated if I don't know the artist, because not everyone understands the intention. The request for critiques, however, makes me feel easier about leaving constructive feedback. I also hope that it will encourage people to help me. I recently received very helpful comments on my piece Shout [link] from ~xscarcrowx, which I took on board and as a result feel much happier with the posted version.

However, two things about the new function struck me. First, the sheer number of critiqueable pics is huge. Of course, this is to be expected in such a large site, but it does make me feel no-one will find my stuff to critique. The second is that the proportion of traditional art in there seems very small compared with photography especially, and then photomanipulation and other digital formats. This is not in itself a problem, but it's hard to filter out things with which you might be able to help. Being able to sort pieces by gallery might help this.

Anyway, even though I am a little viewed artist, quietly tucked away in a corner of DA, I really hope that people will find my drawings and leave some useful critiques.

In order to boost my chances of learning from other and hopefully helping artists, I have this weekend joined a brand new club I spotted - ~Critique-Me - as a member and a critic. I think it is a good initiative and the structure, staffing and set up seem well thought out. I really hope it takes off, and will be doing what I can to help this. Drop by for a look.
