I know this isn't cheery, but I wanted to do something dramatic. This is a photo of the original, but the colours are pretty well represented, I think. The rather orange hue of the skin is intentional and meant to be from streetlamps at night. In fact, I could probably have made it more orange.
Materials:
HB mechanical pencil
Derwent Studio coloured pencils
Cartridge paper
Plastic eraser
Kneadable putty eraser
Size: A3
No references used.
Overall, it seems to have taken me HOURS - no idea how many, due to fitting it in around work etc. I also so need to buy better quality paper. The cartidge paper is a bit worn in places on the finished product.
I like it. It's original. Incidentally, the paper is perfect. The colour is perfect.
It's nothing like some of the other work I've seen on; it looks like an actual effort to convey something human. (In fact, much more than some of the more mechanical stuff I've seen on the portrait pencil artist group.) It has the organic feel that I've seen in the work of some my book illustrator buddies.
Thank you so much. I find posting the pieces that have originated in my imagination a bit nerve-racking - there seems more at stake in terms of criticism than just technical ability. Your comments, though, are greatly encouraging.

When did it suddenly become cool to hate everything? It's a growing problem, especially in the entertainment world, and no one benefits from an increasingly hard to please, pessimistic audience.
Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it. Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article.
In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.
Have a great time everyone and please fav this article so as many people can see the featured works. I would recommend seeing each one and faving them too.
